Raymond Lodge - Light and Distance

Raymond Lodge Light and DistanceDates: Friday 19 May - Saturday 17 June 2017
Venue: Arts Centre, 22 Gawler St, Port Noarlunga

This exhibition marks the beginning of a retrospective journey, celebrating the work of South Australian born artist, Raymond Lodge (1944 – 2014). The first stage of the journey features works produced in both South Australia and the Northern Territory, over the last ten years of the artist’s life.  The collection includes works in pastel, oil and pen, depicting significant landscapes of the southern Fleurieu Peninsula, the West MacDonnell ranges near Alice Springs and mining towns in the far north of South Australia.  The artist’s work demonstrates a painterly skill synonymous with early Australian impressionism, though an exploration of the relationships between light, form and distance.  The landscapes were predominantly painted in plein air, enabling the artists to intimately portray what it is like to be within the landscape.
